The John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation funds, and its subsidiary the John S. Latsis Ileians' Scholarships Foundation implements, a programme providing emergency financial assistance  to all the students attending Greek Universities and Technical Colleges who were permanently residing in the fire-stricken  regions of Ileia Prefecture. The first instalment for the academic year 2007 – 2008  in the sum of 2,000 euros, was disbursed in December 2007 to approximately 1,150 students while the same sum has been given on December 2008 for the academic year 2008 – 2009 to 836 eligible.
